Nutrition & Snacks at LAFS

At LAFS, we believe healthy, happy learning starts with nourishing food. To support steady energy, mood, and focus throughout the day, we prioritize real, wholesome ingredients and maintain a no added sugar school environment

Our snack guidelines are designed to support wellness while keeping our community safe and inclusive for children with allergies.

What families provide

Each day, families pack lunch and one snack for their child.

What LAFS provides

LAFS provides a daily afternoon snack—always nourishing, thoughtfully prepared, and kid-approved. Afternoon snacks vary day to day and may include:

  • Baked sweet potatoes

  • Apples with sunflower seed butter

  • Fresh fruits and vegetables with dips

  • Bean and cheese quesadillas

  • Hummus and veggies

In our older classrooms (Hill & Riverbed)

As children move into Hill and Riverbed, we invite them to take age-appropriate ownership of snack time by helping with simple prep tasks—like washing fruit or chopping soft vegetables with supervision. This builds confidence, independence, and pride… and sometimes inspires kids to “help” at home, too.

Food guidelines & allergies

To support consistent energy, mood, and healthy habits, LAFS is a no added sugar school—and this applies to all food brought to campus, including packed snacks. That means no cookies, candy, sweetened packaged snacks, or treats with added sugar (beyond what naturally occurs in fruit).

We do have occasional Sugar Days for birthdays or special celebrations. Families are notified ahead of time and may choose an alternative if preferred.

LAFS is a completely nut-free campus, and we work closely with families and teachers to ensure allergies and dietary needs are carefully supported.
